TAHAL was selected by Vodokanal Yakutsk, the supplier of drinking water to the city of some 300,000 people, to design and build a water intake lagoon on the Lena River and a water treatment plant with a capacity of 110,000 m3/day. Yakutsk is considered the coldest major city in the world, with average winter temperatures of -38.6° C (-37.5° F).


TAHAL was responsible for all major aspects of this wide-ranging turnkey project, including design and construction. All work and equipment under contract were designed and implemented in compliance with applicable Russian norms, standards and codes.

Specific project activities which are conducted by TAHAL include:

  • Design of intake and water treatment plant including obtaining approval from Russian State Expertise

Construction of:

  • Water intake lagoon, including water intake mouths and filter pipe system
  • On-site utility lines
  • Water treatment plant, including stand-alone interim reservoir
  • Chemical treatment building
  • Backwash water treatment facilities
  • Above-ground reservoir for sludge storage and dewatering
  • Access roads and communications lines
